A warm, spiced cup from Costa Rica’s Esperanza variety, brought to life through a natural anaerobic process.

We’re thrilled to share this beautiful coffee from Monserrath Chinchilla of Sendas del Bosque, a producer whose work is as thoughtful as the cup itself. Monserrath is part of a new generation of Costa Rican growers bringing fresh ideas to their farms, and her commitment to experimentation shines through in this lot. Grown from the Esperanza variety, an F1 hybrid known for its resilience and cup quality, this coffee brings a comforting, autumn-baked profile that feels instantly familiar.

Sendas del Bosque translates to “Forest Paths,” a name rooted in Monserrath’s dedication to conserving the native plants and wildlife that surround her. The farm spans just over six hectares, where she’s been exploring unique varieties like Milenio, SL-28, Geisha, and Casiopea. Her goal has always been the same: honour the land she inherited and grow coffees that reflect her region’s natural beauty.

Monserrath is also a pillar in her community. She employs two local workers year-round and brings on about fifteen more during harvest, most of them women who are heads of household. Her leadership and passion have made her an inspiration to the producers around her, and we’re proud to feature her work. This coffee is everything we love about her approach: warm, spiced, sweet, and full of heart.
