This coffee comes from Cafetalera Buenos Aires wet mill in the Ocotal area of Nicaragua. This lot is a Caturra separation lot from their farms located in the mountains that surround the wet mill. Buenos Aires (Finca), La Laguna, and Acopio Suyatal are all farms owned by Cafetalera Buenos Aires and all farms that we have bought from before. The mill and the farms are very well ran and the coffee is consistently great. This lot is named after the vast area covered in pine trees passed through on the way up to the mill from the town of Ocotal.
The town of Ocotol is in Nicaragua’s Nueva Segovia Department. Nueva Segovia borders Honduras and is a highland area with steep hills and plateaus replete with large rivers. It is also home to the Chorotegas and Nahuas indigenous populations.
As mentioned, this is a Caturra lot. Caturra is a natural mutation of Bourbon. It was discovered in Minas Gerais, Brazil sometime between 1915 to 1918. Caturra has a single-gene mutation that causes the plant to be smaller (dwarfism/compactism). The selection process for Caturra was the mass selection technique whereby a group of individuals are selected based on their superior attributes, seeds from those plants are bulked to form a new generation, and then the process is repeated.
This is a great coffee for espresso or those looking for a crowd pleasing everyday drinker.
