Established in the 1970s, Kamagogo Factory is one of four washing stations operated by the Kiru Farmers Cooperative Society. The station serves approximately 1,000 Kiru members, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and responsible environmental practices.
Kamagogo’s washing tanks are strategically positioned away from drinking water sources, while Kiru works closely with its members to plant shade trees and promote biodiversity on their farms. The producers surrounding Kamagogo also grow a variety of crops, including corn, bananas, beans, and tea.
Processing at Kamagogo follows a fairly traditional approach for Kenyan coffees. Cherries are handpicked and delivered to the station on the same day, where they are fully depulped and washed before undergoing an overnight fermentation. The coffee is then dried for 7–15 days.
